Reborn as art

The task for Year 11 Materials Design and Technology – Building and Construction class was to create a piece of wall art on the topic of Australian animals.

For this framing and sheet metal exercise the students were to use recycled materials where possible.

The timber was sourced locally while the metal had a very interesting back story. Our tech man Jim owned a 120-year-old farm house near Nungarin in the Central Wheatbelt. The whole house was lined internally with galvanised sheet metal and some it made its way into this project.

While they can be used to decorate any wall, this kind of framed art is usually used to enhance garden areas.
